Frequently Asked Questions

When do we need to begin the admissions process?

We appreciate that the childcare climate appears intense and there’s an abundance of pressure to be on multiple waitlists to get a spot before your child is even conceived.

If you’re feeling childcare anxiety - we see you!

Parents who choose us are making a decision to stay with us for multiple years. From the start, our families are much more than names on a waitlist. We begin our admissions process in the Fall for the following Fall with the aim of building relationships with prospective families and ensuring the best possible match between family and school. For this reason, waitlists for any given school year are only opened one year in advance, and only families who have attended an in-person tour and submitted an application will be waitlisted for admission.

Relative placement on the waitlist is not determined by date of application but rather as a result of an effort to balance our classrooms thoughtfully and intentionally with families compatible with our school values.

I’m on the waitlist, when will I get a spot?

Priority is given to our returning families and siblings. Offers are emailed starting December and continue on a rolling basis until all spots are filled.

Can my YPC/Casa aged child attend for only 2 or 3 days a week?

We only enrol students for 5 days a week as we believe that is most supportive for their transitions and routines.

How will my child transition to JK/SK?

Frankly, if you are not planning to stay for a full 3 year Montessori cycle, we may not be the right fit for you.

Children at our schools work hard to develop so many important skills in their first 2 years of the Casa cycle. All this learning culminates in a beautiful final year where the students flourish into the leaders of their classroom community and champions of their environment and the materials. This experience is fundamental to how Montessori works, the development of each child and the experience of their younger classroom peers.

If you are interested in reaping the full benefits of a Montessori education for your child, we strongly feel your child should remain for the full 3 year cycle.

Why do we pay half of tuition before my child starts school?

Our fee structure is a typical for private schools (ie. not month to month like daycare) which allows us to invest in our teachers and facilities ahead of each school year.

What are your class sizes like?

Our YPC classes are licenced for a maximum of 15 students with a staff:child ratio of 1:5.

Our Casa classrooms range in licenced capacity from 19 to 26 students. The licenced capacity can change slightly throughout the year as the children age. Depending on the age range of children, staff:child ratios in these classrooms are either 1:8 or 1:13.

Our Elementary classes also range in size from approximately 15 - 30 students.

Does my Elementary/Middle School student need experience in Montessori to attend your schools?

Short answer: Maybe! The Montessori materials and methodology are specific and most children in our elementary and middle school programs have been with us since they were 3 years old (or even younger!) and have developed a deep understanding of them in this time.

That doesn’t mean it can’t work for a student coming to us from another program, but it does mean admission into our schools at these older levels requires closer consideration and attention. Information sessions for these levels are one-on-one so we can discuss your child’s learning needs with you in detail.

How do Montessori students transition to “traditional” learning environments?

Montessori students tend to be motivated, independent learners. They take ownership over their learning and expect their teachers and peers to treat their education with the same respect. They may not be used to asking to use the washroom or to have a snack (they’ve learned bodily autonomy and how to manage their own time), but they adapt well to new situations and routines, and have the maturity to advocate for themselves if they need additional help or further challenge, as this has been modelled for them throughout their time with us.

Why is aftercare an annual fee?

Annual fees enable us to hire reliable and qualified staff, as we can be confident regarding enrolment. Ensuring reliable, quality programming requires full-time staff invested in our school community.

Is there Financial Aid Available?

Right now a limited amount of Financial Aid is available to Returning students only. We hope to expand to include Incoming students in the near future.
